Chasing Colour

Picture Book Synopsis
Jett and Sam have been best friends for life. Now, Jett wants MORE friends. The problem is, none of the other birds notice him. Is he too dull? Too plain? Sam has an idea, and plans a special party for Jett.

At the party, EVERYTHING changes.

Audience
3 to 6 year olds.

Jett

A scruffy, cool, alternative, fun, anxious, curious, endearing crow. Jett’s name is a play on the colour jet black, and the character was inspired by Joan Jett.

Inspiration

Recently, I read that crows are not entirely black as we see them. Their feathers are iridescent and patterned; to other crows they are beautifully colourful. This sparked an idea, which has grown into a story about friendship, identity and belonging. I believe many children and adults will be able to relate to this story, finding comfort in it.
